About the Indian Society of Criminology
The Indian Society of Criminology (ISC) was formally inaugurated on November 18, 1970, by the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Dr. M. Karunanidhi, in the historic Senate House of the University of Madras. Originally, the ISC began as a Criminology and Forensic Science Study Circle formed by students at the University of Madras, and it has since evolved into a significant organization with over 2,200 members. Today, the Indian Society of Criminology has a diverse membership that includes professionals from India and abroad, such as criminologists, sociologists, psychologists, politicians, advocates, judges, social workers, and academicians, all dedicated to the study of criminal behaviour. Since its inception, the ISC has committed itself to advancing the field of criminology as a scientific discipline on a broad scale, with the ultimate goal of enhancing societal well-being through effective crime prevention and control strategies. The Society's mission is supported by numerous initiatives, including the organization of annual conferences, symposia, lectures, and training programs focused on crime and criminology.
